Daily Poem Practice September 1, 2025

****A practice inspired by Rosemerry Wahtola Trommer's A Hundred Falling Veils ****

Freedom

What if I

get a tattoo?

dye  my hair?

go out dancing?

Will I then        be

free?

Or divorce him

or quit my job

or write my stories

or tell my secrets

or relinquish my gods?

Or move to another country

           or speak a new language

or run away, fast and long and unstopping?

        or disappear into ethereal nothingness

                                                                  and everythingness

ever present and yet eluding perception?

The answer is, of course,

                        both stilling

                                        and chilling:

“If you can’t let yourself     be

                                          free now,

                                                         under these conditions,

                                                                                                    you never will be.”
